Nominations for the 37th annual People’s Choice Awards, as determined by online voting, were announced Tuesday. Not surprisingly, “Eclipse,” the third installment in the “Twilight” saga, leads with eight bids including both Favorite Film and Favorite Drama, Favorite Actor (Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner) and Favorite Actress (Kristen Stewart). The trio also contend for Favorite Team, which they won last year, while Pattinson and Stewart are among the nominees for Favorite Movie Star Under 25.
Small screen vampires also took a bite out of the nominations with “The Vampire Diaries” contending for Favorite Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Drama Actor (Ian Somerhalder) while “True Blood” contends for Sci-Fi/Fantasy and TV Obsession.
“Glee” led the way among all TV shows with nominations for Favorite Comedy, Comedy Actor (Matthew Morrison) and Actress (Jane Lynch) and two Guest bids (Neil Patrick Harris, Britney Spears). Emmy champ “Modern Family,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “How I Met Your Mother” and “Two and a Half Men” round out the top laffer race. Along with Morrison, reigning Emmy winner Jim Parsons made the top five funny fellows as did previous champ Alec Baldwin, Steve Carrell and Harris. As well as Emmy winner Lynch, the other the witty women nominated are Emmy darling Tina Fey and a trio of talent who have yet to make the Emmy roster — Courteney Cox, Eva Longoria Parker and Alyson Hannigan.
On the drama side, the other series in the running besides “Diaries” are “The Good Wife,” “Gossip Girl,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “House.” The acting nominees are drawn from all those shows along with “Private Practice” stars Kate Walsh and Taye Diggs. Emmy favorites “Mad Men” and “Breaking Bad” did not garner enough online votes to make any of the races. Neither did “The Closer” star Kyra Sedgwick, who won with the Emmys this year and was the People’s Choice for Favorite TV Diva two years ago.
Voting will continue at the official website until Dec. 7 with winners announced on the Jan. 5 CBS kudocast hosted by Queen Latifah.
