The 10 Best Picture nominees proved to be the most popular across the various branches of the academy. These ten contenders for the top prize at the Oscars also lead with the most nominations among all films in the running. From “The King’s Speech” with an even dozen bids, down to “The Kids Are All RIght” and “Winter’s Bone” with four apiece, the Best Picture nominees amassed 69 nominations in total. Multiple nominees that did not make the Best Picture race are three-time contender “Alice in Wonderland” and with two each “Biutiful,” “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” and “How to Train Your Dragon.”
While only “The King’s Speech” and “The Fighter” earned three acting nominations each, all of the Best Picture nominees — with the exception of “Inception” and the animated feature “Toy Story 3” — count at least one acting bid among their totals. And but for “Black Swan,” they are all screenplay nominees; “Another Year” filled that fifth Original Screenplay slot.
