This year’s Best Comedy Actress race at the Emmy Awards could well include the three most recent winners — Edie Falco (“Nurse Jackie,” 2010); Toni Collette (“United States of Tara,” 2009) and Tina Fey (“30 Rock,” 2008). However, for one the them to become the first double Emmy champ since Patricia Heaton (“Everybody Loves Raymond,” 2000, 2001) — who could also contend for “The Middle” — she will have to overcome a challenge from frontrunner Laura Linney. While “The Big C” marks the first regular TV gig for the three-time Oscar nominee, Linney has gone undefeated in her three previous Emmy bids: Best Movie/Mini Actress, “Wid Iris” (2002), “John Adams” (2008); Best Guest Comedy Actress, “Frasier” (2004).
Other possible contenders include last year’s nominees Amy Poehler (“Parks & Recreation”) and Lea Michele (“Glee”) as well as three-time contender Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds”). And among the possible newcomers to the race are Courteney Cox (“Cougar Town”), who was the only one of the “Friends” to go without an Emmy bid, Kaley Cuoco (“The Big Bang Theory” and the ladies of “Hot in Cleveland.”
