‘Game of Thrones’ renewed by HBO after just one episode

Two days after “Game of Thrones” debuted to an overall audience of 4.2 million viewers, HBO has renewed the series for a second season. In making the announcement, programming president Michael Lombardo said, “We are delighted by the way David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have brought George R.R. Martin’s amazing book series to the screen, and thrilled by the support of the media and our viewers. This is the continuation of an exciting creative partnership.”

Based on the first book in the best-selling series, “Game of Thrones” takes the audience to the medieval fantasy world of Westeros. The initial installment in this tale of the feud among noble families for control of the Iron Throne received rave reviews from many of the top TV critics. Expect this well-received series to contend in a slew of categories at the Emmy Awards.
