The Grammy Awards, whic drew an audience that topped 26.6 million on Sunday night, continue to rank as the second-highest kudocast of the year behind the Oscars. Up 3% from last year’s numbers, the CBS programming staple has seamlessly shifted the emphasis from the awards — just 10 were handed out — to performances. There were 16 different sets with dozens of musical acts ranging from newcomers like Justin Bieber and Drake to veterans such as Mick Jagger and Barbra Streisand.
Among adults 18-49, the awardscast averaged a rating of 10.3, which represented a 26 share; that is a 4% increase from last year and the best it has done in this demo in seven years. The 9.5/28 rating for adults 18-34 also marked the show’s best showing in that demo since 2004. And among the 12-17 set, the 8.1 rating represented an increase of 13% over last year.
