Grammy Predictions: Best R&B Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocals

Gold Derby’s music experts David Schnelwar and Darrin Dortch reveal who will win and who should win in the category of Best R&B Performance By A Duo or Group with Vocals. In the days to come, they will be predicting the rest of the top Grammy races.

Here are their takes on the other R&B categories: Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

BEST R&B PERFORMANCE BY A DUO OR GROUP WITH  VOCALS
“Love,” Chuck Brown, Jill Scott & Marcus Miller
“Take My Time,” Chris Brown & Tank
“You’ve Got A Friend,” Aretha Franklin & Ron Isley
“Shine,” John Legend & The Roots
“Soldier of Love,” Sade

David’s take: John Legend and The Roots are nominated throughout the R&B Field making them the frontrunners to win this year. Sade is possible but failed to receive nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Song. Aretha Franklin was in the news lately because of a medical concern and could get sympathy votes. The collaborations of Chuck Brown, Jill Scott & Marcus Miller and Chris Brown & Tank are not likely to upset.

Will win: John Legend & The Roots, “Shine”
Should win: Sade, “Soldier of Love”
Spoiler: Sade, “Soldier of Love”

Darrin’s take: Aretha Franklin, Ron Isley, John Legend and Sade are all past winners here and will duke it out for the win. Legend and The Roots are heavily nominated here and could spoil. Franklin’s health problems and Isley’s recent legal troubles could invoke sympathy votes and push them to a win. Despite being snubbed in R&B Album and R&B Song, I think Sade will still eek out a win here since their song has had the most exposure and was a hit on the R&B charts.

Will win: Sade, “Soldier of Love”
Should win: Sade, “Soldier of Love”
Spoiler: Aretha Franklin & Ron Isley and John Legend & The Roots
