Grammy Predictions: Best Rock Album

Finishing off the rock field, Gold Derby’s music experts David Schnelwar and Darrin Dortch disagree about who will win and who should win this award but agree about who could play spoiler. They have already predicted Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and Best Rock Solo Performance with Vocals.

BEST ROCK ALBUM
“Emotion & Commotion,” Jeff Beck
“The Resistance,” Muse
“Backspacer,” Pearl Jam
“Mojo,” Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
“Le Noise,” Neil Young

David’s take: None of the five nominated albums for Best Rock Album are nominated for Album of the Year this year. Jeff Beck, Pearl Jam, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Neil Young are all veterans and have been around for twenty-plus years and most likely split the vote. I expect Muse‘s “The Resistance” to win.

Will win: “The Resistance,” Muse
Should win: “The Resistance,” Muse
Spoiler: “Le Noise,” Neil Young

Darrin’s take:  Muse and Neil Young are nominated throughout the rock field and are the frontrunners here. Tom Petty, Beck, Pearl Jam and Young will probably split the veteran vote leaving Muse as the winner.

Will win: “The Resistance,” Muse
Should win: “Le Noise,” Neil Young
Spoiler: “Le Noise,” Neil Young
