Grammy Predictions: Best Short Form Music Video

There is only one video that will and should win this award say Gold Derby’s music experts David Schnelwar and Darrin Dortch. Next up for them are the four general field categories.

BEST SHORT FORM MUSIC VIDEO
“Ain’t No Grave/The Johnny Cash Project,” Johnny Cash
“Love the Way You Lie,” Eminem & Rihanna
“Stylo,” Gorillaz
“F*** You,” Cee Lo Green
“Bad Romance,” Lady Gaga

David’s take: Lady Gaga‘s “Bad Romance” is the most viewed video in YouTube history and won seven 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. Eminem & Rihanna‘s “Love The Way You Lie” and Cee Lo Green‘s “F*** You” are both nominated  for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. This is one of the rare Grammy categories that the General Field is not a good indicator for who will win in this category. Johnny Cash‘s “Ain’t No Grave/The Johnny Cash Project” and Gorillaz, Mos Def & Bobby Womack’s “Stylo” will not likely upset. I predict Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” to win.

Will win: Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance”
Should win: Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance”
Spoiler: Eminem & Rihanna, “Love The Way You Lie”

Darrin’s take: This is a strong lineup. Cash is a past winner here, but it’s unlikely he’ll repeat for his low key video considering the high profile competition. Gorillaz are out, too, since their latest album was pretty much snubbed by voters. Eminem and Cee Lo’s tracks are Record and Song of the Year nominees, but Lady Gaga probably has this one locked up. “Bad Romance” is the year’s most popular video and it only helps that the video swept the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. I think Gaga’s a lock here.

Will win: Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance”
Should win: Lady Gaga, “Bad Romance”
Spoiler: No one
