Grammys Predictions: Record of the Year

In the third of four races in the General Field, Darrin Dortch and David Schnelwar agree on the tune that will win and the one that should win this award. They have already predicted Best New Artist and Song of the Year.

RECORD OF THE  YEAR
“Nothin’ On You,” B.O.B. & Bruno Mars
“F*** You,” Cee Lo Green
“Love the Way You Lie,” Eminem & Rihanna
“Empire State of Mind,” Jay-Z & Alicia Keys
“Need You Now, “ Lady Antebellum

David's take: "F*** You," "Empire State of Mind," "Nothin' On You" and "Love The Way You Lie" are all on Urban radio and will likely split the vote. "Need You Now" is the type of song that the Grammys award Record of the Year to based on years past. The Eagles (in the 70's), Lionel Richie (in the 80's) and Celine Dion (in the 90's) could have won Record of the Year for "Need You Now." I predict Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" to win.

Will win: "Need You Now," Lady Antebellum
Should win: "Empire State Of Mind," Jay-Z & Alicia Keys
Spoiler: "Love The Way You Lie," Eminem & Rihanna

Darrin's take: In 2003, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself,” the Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake’s “Where Is the Love,” Beyonce and Jay-Z’s “Crazy In Love" and Outkast’s “Hey Ya” were nominated in this category against Coldplay’s “Clocks.” Sure enough, the conservative record won. This year we have the same scenario. Three rap/sung collaboration nominees are in this category along with a song that contains an abundance of profanity. A song nominated in the R&B field has yet to win this category, so I fully expect Lady Antebellum to win here. Conservative records with live instruments always win here.

Will win: "Need You Now," Lady Antebellum
Should win: "Empire State Of Mind," Jay-Z & Alicia Keys
Spoiler: “F*** You,” Cee Lo Green
