MTV Networks is launching the O Music Awards — a new kudo to salute digital musicmaking. Leading nominations for the inaugural edition of these awards are Lady Gaga and Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator who each landed three bids. Both Nicki Minaj and Kanye West picked up a pair of nominations.
While the “O” is not defined, it could stand for “online” as that is where both voting and the April 28 ceremony will take place. Beginning Tuesday, votes can be cast at the OMA website. The OMAs included categories recognizing the achievements of artists, tech types, web celebs and even the fans who have made a difference in digital music.
Both Lady Gaga and Tyler are contending for Most Innovative Artist and Must-Follow Artist on Twitter. And while Lady Gaga vies for Favourite Animated GIF category Tyler was tapped for his remix of Lykke Li‘s “Follow Rivers.”
Other categories include Best NSFW Music Video, Best Fan Cover and Best Online Fan Army. Winners will be revealed via various MTV websites as well as the usual social media.
