The psychological thriller “Martha Marcy May Marlene” was a hit at the Sundance filmfest and the trailer below reveals glimpses into the many layers of this complex film. Sean Durkin did double duty on the picture, both writing and helming his first feature. His efforts paid off as he won Best Director from the festival last January.
He has woven a story that shifts in time and place as a young woman (Elizabeth Olsen) struggles to reconnect with her family after falling under the spell of a charisamtic cult leader played by recent Indie Spirit winner and Oscar nominee John Hawkes (“Winter’s Bone”). Sarah Paulson is the sister who rescues her after two years while Hugh Dancy is Paulson’s husband who worries for their safety.
The film is slated for the New York filmfest before being released nationally by Fox Searchlight in October.
