The 28th annual edition of the MTV Video Music Awards will take place on the 28th of August. As with last year’s highly-rated kudocast, they will be staged at the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.
In making the announcement, MTV president Stephen Friedman said, “We are thrilled to return to Los Angeles, where the energy of the city will be instrumental in powering the creative and spirit of the 28th annual VMAs. The city is the perfect backdrop to capture and create all the musical moments, mayhem and magic that make the VMAs such a notorious celebration.”
Over the course of the 2010 VMAs, an average of 11.4 million viewers tuned in, giving the cablecaster its best numbers for the awardscast since 2002. That marked a bump of 27% from the 2009 awards at Radio City Music Hall, which are best-remembered for the hijacking by Kanye West of Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech.
