Oscar contenders are among the honorees for this year’s Hollywood Film Awards: “Academy Award-nominated actor Christopher Plummer will receive the ‘Hollywood Supporting Actor Award,’ for ‘Beginners,’ actor Joseph Gordon Levitt will be honored with the ‘Hollywood Breakthrough Actor Award,’ for ‘50/50,’ actress Jessica Chastain will be honored with the ‘Hollywood Breakthrough Actress Award,’ for ‘The Tree of Life,’ ‘Coriolanus,’ ‘The Debt,’ ‘The Help,’ and ‘Take Shelter,’ and actress Felicity Jones will receive the ‘New Hollywood Award’ for ‘Like Crazy.'” HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL

Terry Gilliam is among the European Film Awards’ Short Film nominees: “Fifteen short films are now nominated for the European Film Awards. This year’s final nomination was just announced at the International Short Film Festival in Drama (Greece): Terry Gilliam’s ‘The Wholly Family.’ (He received the European Film Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.) The short film initiative is organized by the European Film Academy in co-operation with a series of film festivals throughout Europe. At each of these festivals, an independent jury presents one of the European short films in competition with a nomination in the short film category of the European Film Awards.” DEADLINE

Matt Roush reviews FOX’s new sci-fi drama “Terra Nova”: “This lavishly produced family-friendly sci-fi time-travel adventure isn’t what you’d call edgy — from Steven Spielberg, it has ‘Jurassic’ bark, but not much bite — and it lays on the ‘starting over’ schmaltz a bit heavily as we follow a family through a ‘Stargate’-like portal into a settlement 85 million years in the prehistoric past on a separate time stream, giving humans a second chance to create a civilization without destroying the planet.” TV GUIDE

Desperate Housewives” posts all-time low ratings, but “Pan Am” still takes off: “Clearly, folks weren’t too interested in the return of ‘Desperate Housewives’: The beginning of the end for the ABC drama only posted a 3.1/7 and 9.7 million viewers — its lowest premiere ever. Oops! At least folks didn’t go away for the start of ‘Pan Am,’ which beat the premiere of ‘CSI: Miami’ (2.2/5, 9. 9 million) by earning a 3.1/8 and 10.8 million. (Each 18-49 ratings point equals 1.3 million viewers). Hey, it could have been worse for the fly girls; ABC says it was the first program to build on its ‘Housewives’ premiere in viewers since ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in 2006. Not bad at all.” EW.COM
