SAG Film Awards snubs: “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close,” “Hugo”

The SAG Awards for film are known for their impressive overlap with the Academy Awards. Last year, all five Ensemble nominees earned Oscar bids for Best Picture, and 17 out of 20 individual nominees went on to receive Oscar nominations. The year before, 4 out of 5 Ensemble nominees contended for Best Picture, while a whopping 19 out of 20 individual nominees also earned Oscar bids.

Among the most notable snubs this year: “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” and “Hugo” across-the-board, including surprising Supporting Actor snubs for veterans Max von Sydow and Ben Kingsley; Vanessa Redgrave for “Coriolanus“; Michael Fassbender for “Shame“; Gary Oldman for “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy“; Albert Brooks for “Drive“; and Shailene Woodley for “The Descendants.” After being ignored by the Critics’ Choice Awards, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and its star Rooney Mara were also excluded.
