Of the 100,000-plus members of the Screen Actors Guild, 4,200 are chosen to be on the two nominating committes for film and TV awards. All guild members are eligible provided that they are paid up with their dues and have not served as a juror in the past five years.
The compostion of the committess, which are evenly divided from those selected, remains a secret, with SAG acting as a conduit for screeners and the like sent by the studios.
This year’s calendar starts with the submission of nominees from July 10 to Oct. 27. Nomination ballots will be mailed on Nov. 23 to those SAG members who requested them by Oct. 3 (otherwise they can only vote online). Voting closes on Dec. 12 with nominations announced on Dec. 15.
The final round of voting runs from Jan. 2 to Jan. 27 with winners announced two days later on the TBS/TNT kudocast.
