‘The Killing’ draws 2.7 million witnesses

The Killing” attracted 2.7 million viewers for its two-hour debut Sunday on AMC. While that is only half the audience that tuned in to the basic cablecaster’s premiere of “The Walking Dead” last October, it is still a respectable number given the competition on the TV schedule. Besides, the Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS, there were series premieres of “The Borgias” on Showtime and “Camelot” on Starz as well as the first installment of “The Kennedys” miniseries on Reelz.

Boosted by rave reviews, this crime drama is posed to be a serious contender at the Emmy Awards. Adapted from the Danish TV series “Forbrydelsen,” “The Killing” ties together three distinct stories around the murder of a teenage girl in Seattle: the victim’s family, the detectives assigned to the case, and the suspects. Mireille Enos (“Big Love”) is the lead detective, her partner is Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman, Brent Sexton (“W.”) and Michelle Forbes (“Homicide: Life on the Street,” “True Blood”) are the grief-stricken parents and Golden Globe nominee Billy Campbell (“Once & Again”) is a mayoral candidate who uses the murder to his political advantage.
