The musical version of “Ghost” opened in London this summer and is now slated to arrive on Broadway next spring. The 1990 Best Picture contender featured an Oscar-winning performance by Whoopi Goldberg as the psychic who communciates with the spirit of Patrick Swayze for the grieving Demi Moore.
Bruce Joel Rubin adapted his Oscar-winning original screenplay while Grammy winner Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard penned the tunes. Tony champ Matthew Warchus (“God of Carnage”) will handle helming as he did with the London production that stars Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy as the doomed couple and Sharon D. Clarke as the sassy seeress.
Monday’s announcement did not mention casting but confirmed that the musical will open at a Nederlander theater in April. Rob Howell will design the sets and costumes while Hugh Vanstone will handle lighting, Jon Driscoll will do the projection design and Paul Kieve will recreate the well-received illusions from the West End production.
