“Eclipse,” the third installment in the “Twilight” saga, leads with eight nominations at the MTV Movie Awards, while Oscars contender “Inception” earned seven nods and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” has six. All three are competing for Best Movie as are two other Oscar nominees — “Black Swan” and “The Social Network.”
Best Actress Oscar champ Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) contends for that award here as well. While she dispatched Annette Bening (“The Kids Are All Right”) with ease, she could have a harder time against “Twilight” leading lady Kristen Stewart who has won this prize for the past two years running. Stewart and her co-star Robert Pattinson have also claimed Best Kiss twice but may be defeated by the lip locking of Portman and Mila Kunis in “Black Swan.”
Reigning Best Actor Pattinson is up against co-star Taylor Lautner and “Harry Potter” player Daniel Radcliffe for the second year running with Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg (“The Social Network”) and Zac Efron (“Charlie St. Cloud”) filling out the roster. Radcliffe, who was snubbed by the Tony Awards Tuesday for his performance in “How to Succeed,” has never succeeded with the MTV Awards either remaining winless after five previous bids.
Other Oscar nominees in the running include Best Supporting Actress contender Amy Adams for Best FIght for her brawl with the sisters in “The Fighter” and Best Actor nominee James Franco for Best Jaw-Dropping Moment for freeing himself from that rock in “127 Hours.”
Voting runs online through June 4, save for the top prize with balloting closing for that during the June 5 kudofest. “SNL” funny man Jason Sudekis has been tapped to host the 20th anniversary edition. He is the eighth current or former castmate from this NBC staple to emcee this free-wheeling awards show.
