Among the hotly contested races is Favorite Movie. The first three installments in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise won this award. However, “On Stranger Tides” is the only nominee not to be contending in a genre category as well with “The Help” contending for Favorite Drama while “Bridesmaids” vies for Favorite Comedy and both “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” and “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” are up for Favorite Action Movie.
Johnny Depp, the star of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” has won nine times since 2005, including Favorite Movie Actor in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2011. He contends in that category again this year against Hugh Jackman, Robert Pattinson, Daniel Radcliffe and Ryan Reynolds.
Among the top TV contenders are reigning Favorite Comedy Series champ “Glee” which defends its title and competes in six other categories. “The Vampire Diaries” remains a fan favorite as star Nina Dobrev made People’s Choice Awards history as the first nominee to secure her slot by write-in votes. In all, more than 40 million online votes were cast to determine the contenders.
Katy Perry tops the list of nominees with seven nods across all three genres: Movies (Favorite Animated Movie Voice), Music (Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Song, Favorite Pop Artist, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Tour Headliner) and television (Favorite TV Guest Star).
