Taylor Swift is predicted to repeat as Entertainer of the Year at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards. Our Editors also expect all four of last year’s vocal champs to win again with Brad Paisley taking home Male Vocalist for the sixth year in a row, Lady Antebellum claiming Vocal Group for the third year running and both Miranda Lambert (Female Vocalist) and Sugarland (Vocal Duo) prevailing for a second time.
With odds of 21 to 20, Swift has the edge in the top race over Jason Aldean at odds of 9 to 2. Aldean, who has six nominations in all, is also second in Male Vocalist. Paisley is at 17 to 10 while Aldean has odds of 21 to 10.
Swift failed in her previous three bids for Female Vocalist and is likely to lose again this year. With odds of 23 to 10, she is well behind Lambert (5 to 4) who did well at last year’s kudos, winning this race as well as Record, Song and Video for “The House That Built Me.”
Sugarland won Vocal Duo last year and in 2008 and is expected to claim the hat trick with odds of 8 to 11. Their closest competition are newcomers Thompson Square with odds of 3 to 1.
Lady Antebellum is forecast to three-peat as Vocal Group with odds of 1 to 2. The Band Perry may be in second place but is far back at odds of 11 to 2. Lady Antebellum, which won Album of the Year last year with “Need You Now,” is in a tight race to take home a matching bookend for “Own the Night.” Their new disc has odds of 8 to 5 while Aldean’s “My Kinda Party” is a close second with odds of 9 to 4. The group is also expected to claim Song of the Year for “Just a Kiss.”
However, Aldean is expected to win two awards for his collaboration with Kelly Clarkson on the chart-topping tune “Don’t You Wanna Stay.” It leads the Record of the Year race with odds of 8 to 15, well ahead of the Kenny Chesney/Grace Potter ditty “You and Tequila” which has odds of 5 to 1. It is also forecast to win Vocal Event of the Year leading “You and Tequila” with odds of 8 to 15 versus 11 to 1.
Swift is also favored to win Video of the Year for “Mean” which has even odds over “Just A Kiss” by Lady Antebellum which has odds of 21 to 10.
