‘Saturday Night Live’ ties ‘Frasier’ for most Emmy wins ever

A major Emmy record was achieved this year but was somewhat lost in the mix of all the awards coverage. With four more wins, the long-running NBC variety series “Saturday Night Live” is now tied with “Frasier” with 37 each, the most of any series ever.

While “Frasier,” another NBC show, earned its record haul in just 11 years, the most recent season of ‘SNL’ was its 37th. Among the performing winners over the years, the list has included Dana Carvey, Chevy Chase, Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey, Gilda Radner, Justin Timberlake, and Betty White. Creator Lorne Michaels has individually won six Emmys for producing and writing the show and was inducted into the TV Academy’s Hall of Fame in 1999.

In addition, the program has an overwhelming lead for the most primetime nominations for a series. It has received 156 compared to 124 for “E.R.” and 117 for “Cheers.”
