The Golden Globes are often considered a strong predictor of the Academy Awards, and expected Oscar contenders like “Lincoln,” “Argo,” and “Les Miserables” were among the top nominees, but there were nevertheless many surprises, including “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen,” released back in March, which wasn’t in our prediction center.
Despite the surprises, however, two of our Users — MalickFanboy and NoirJo — predicted 88% of the nominees, leading all predictors. Another four Users scored 85%.
Our experts didn’t fare quite as well. Gold Derby’s own Paul Sheehan led the way with 82%, followed by Tom O’Neil with 80% and Matt Atchity (Rotten Tomatoes) with 77%. Five pundits tied for 76%: Thelma Adams (Yahoo), Edward Douglas (Comingsoon), Tariq Khan (Fox News), Kevin Polowy (NextMovie), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone). Susan Wloszczyna (USA Today) reaped 75%. Sasha Stone (AwardsDaily) nailed 74%.
Our top editor was David Schnelwar with 79%. Chris Beachum and Daniel Montgomery tied with 76%.
