‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Smurfs’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’ lead Kids’ Choice Awards nominations

The “Harry Potter” franchise leads with four nominations for the Kids’ Choice Awards. The final film in the series “Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows: Part 2” contends for Favorite Movie while stars Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson vie for Favorite Actor and Actress respectively and J.K. Rowling‘s novels are up for Favorite Book.

Another franchise — “Kung Fu Panda” — begat both Favorite Movie (“Kung Fu Panda 2”) and Favorite TV Cartoon nominees while Jack Black vies for Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie. 

“The Smurfs” reaped three bids: Favorite Movie, Favorite Movie Actress (Sofia Vergara) and Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie (Katy Perry). 

“The Muppets” has two bids: Favorite Movie and Favorite Movie Actress (Amy Adams) as does the “Twilight franchise: Favorite Movie Actress (Kristen Stewart) and Favorite Book.

Johnny Depp is looking for a third win as Favorite Movie Actor, after picking up this prize last year and in 2008. He also contends for the first time for Favorite Voice for his work on “Rango” which is nominated for Favorite Animated Movie. 

Reigning three-time Favorite TV Series champ “iCarly” contends against “Good Luck Charlie,” “Victorious” and “Wizards of Waverly Place.”

Three-time winner Selena Gomez (“Wizards of Waverly Place”) defends her title of TV actress. However, Dylan Sprouse (“The Suite Life on Deck”) who won TV Actor for the past three years running was snubbed as was his brother Cole Sprouse who has been an also-ran all those times. 

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift go head-to-head for Favorite Female Singer and Favorite Song.

Winners will be chosen via popular vote that begins March 1 and revealed on March 31 in a ceremony hosted by Will Smith and airing on Nickelodeon.
