More than 300 users made predictions for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, but in a night filled with surprises (read our report here), our overall odds were correct in only four of the 15 races: Rock Video (Coldplay‘s “Paradise“), Message Video (Demi Lovato‘s “Skyscraper“), Art Direction (Katy Perry‘s “Wide Awake“), and Visual Effects (Skrillex‘s “First Of The Year (Equinox)“).

Many of our users were ahead of the curve. Leading all predictors with an accuracy of 60% (nine out of 15 categories) were Joseph Alejandro Baello and Robert Moscoso, both of whom correctly foresaw the sweep by One Direction and the surprise victory of Calvin Harris for Electronic-Dance Video.

Among Gold Derby editors, Darrin Dortch came out on top with 40% accuracy (six out of 15), followed by Andrew Pickett with 34% (five out of 15) and Daniel Montgomery, who matched the overall odds with 27% (four out of 15).
