Will Adam Sandler have the balls to accept Worst Actress Razzie?

Adam Sandler is no stranger to the Razzie Awards, with nine previous nominations and a Worst Actor win in 1999 for “Big Daddy,” but this year the “Saturday Night Live” alum has outdone himself. As writer, actor, and producer of the films “Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star” “Just Go with It,” and “Jack and Jill,” Sandler is nominated an unprecedented eleven times, shattering the record previously set by Eddie Murphy, who received five nominations for “Norbit” in 2007. How impressive is Sandler’s feat? He has more Razzie nominations than there are Razzie categories. (See full list of nominations here.)

He earned most of his nominations for “Jack and Jill,” in which he plays a successful Los Angeles ad executive and his visiting twin sister. The film received twelve bids overall, more than any other film, including Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor, and Worst Actress (all for Sandler). John Wilson, founder of the Razzie Awards, thinks it would be a wise decision for Sandler to accept the honor in person if he wins, following in the footsteps of game Razzie recipients Halle Berry (“Catwoman,” 2004) and Sandra Bullock (“All About Steve,” 2009). Wilson explains, “He would literally be the first person to have the balls to accept a Worst Actress award.”

Transformers: Dark of the Moon” is not far behind, with nine nominations, including supporting bids for Patrick Dempsey and model-turned-actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley; the previous “Transformers” installment, “Revenge of the Fallen,” won Worst Picture in 2009, but no movie franchise has ever won multiple Worst Picture awards.

The Twilight Saga: Beaking Dawn, Part 1” has eight nominations; this is the second Worst Picture bid for the supernatural romance series, following “Eclipse” last year. Like the final “Harry Potter” novel, “Breaking Dawn” was split into two films, the second of which will be released in 2012, but was there enough story to justify separate installments? Says Wilson, “You spend the whole first half of the movie on their honeymoon, and I swear to God there’s five or six scenes of them playing chess.”

Bucky Larson,” Adam Sandler’s other writing and producing venture, has six nominations, and Garry Marshall‘s holiday-themed romantic comedy “New Year’s Eve” rounds out the top five – or bottom five, if you will – with five Razzie nods.

Watch our interview with John Wilson below to find out the Razzie guru’s thoughts on the rest of the notorious contenders, including “wolf-boy” Taylor Lautner and Oscar-winners Nicolas Cage and Al Pacino. He also reveals his most painful movie to sit through in his 32 years as Razzies impresario and recommends one great film from 2011 to cleanse the palate after suffering through Hollywood’s worst cinematic output.

The winners will be presented on Sunday, April 1 – April Fool’s Day.
