Oscar Experts: ’12 Years a Slave’ still way out front in Best Picture race

Looks like Gold Derby’s Oscar Experts expect to see one of those rare splits in the Best Picture/ Director awards. While “12 Years a Slave” leads the Best Picture race with the support of 17 out of 24 pundits, it only commands 7 votes for Best Director. Instead, 17 Oscarologists predict “Gravity‘s” Alfonso Cuaron will prevail.

Gravity” is in second place for Best Picture with four votes. “American Hustle” follows in third place with three prognosticators behind it.

  1. It’s obvious some people don’t want the “uppity” Steve McQueen to win. Usually they are the people who wear weird camo and blow duck whistles and grow long beards, but sometimes they live in Malibu and drive Prius.

  2. @peggyallen…so what you are saying is that if you are normal and sane then you of course want McQueen to win. Because you are weird or fringe or elitist if you don’t vote for him. Ahhhh…let the awards voting for McQueen begin eh?

  3. No, @Lily, what I am saying is, some people are looking for a reason to NOT vote for McQueen. For some reason, people don’t like him. That’s nothing new. The Academy picks people they don’t like all the time. For various reasons, and they refuse to award these people for many years. I’m just saying it looks like the same situation is happening here. It may not, he may get nominated and win, I’m just pointing out the various tricks some members of the Academy will use against some people.
