AP’s Lynn Elber: ‘Breaking Bad’ will win Emmy for Best Drama

Long-time Gold Derby pundit Lynn Elber (Associated Press) just gave us her Emmy predictions and – rejoice, “Breaking Bad” fans – she’s not going with the consensus view that “Homeland” has Best Drama Series in the bag for a second year in a row.

“I’m picking ‘Breaking Bad‘ even though there’s been a reluctance by the TV academy to choose gritty shows in the past,” Elber tells Gold Derby. “‘The Sopranos’ finally broke through after its fifth season. Now history can repeat itself.”

In the race for Best Comedy Series, Elber agrees with the overwhelming pundit view that “Modern Family” will repeat for a fourth year in a row. But that may be risky. Yes, “Frasier” won five times, but “30 Rock” couldn’t get past three consecutive victories (cut short by “Modern Family” in 2011).

In the top series acting races, she’s betting on Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory“), Lena Dunham (“Girls“), Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad“) and Claire Danes (“Homeland“).
