Look at this chart and you can see the momentum building behind “Breaking Bad‘s” bid to win the Emmy for Best Drama Series. The TV program’s red line is moving up sharply while “Homeland‘s” blue line dips south.
Ah, what a difference a month makes when it comes to Emmy predictions. On June 9, only one of the Experts polled by Gold Derby predicted “Breaking Bad” will win Best Drama Series. “Homeland” led with seven votes. “Downton Abbey” had the backing of two pundits, “Game of Thrones” one. Now the score: six for “Homeland,” four for “Breaking Bad,” two for “Downton Abbey” and one for “Game of Thrones.”
Most of the chart momentum behind “Breaking Bad” is due to the views of three pundits. Associated Press TV scribe Lynn Elber recently gave us her predix, which place “Breaking Bad” in the top position. And Gold Derby executive editor Paul Sheehan and I just switched our forecast to “Breaking Bad” after carefully considering the likely impact of AMC airing some of its final eight episodes while Emmy judges are inking their ballots to pick winners in August.
