In the much buzzed-about Emmy opening, Monteith and the rest of the “Glee” gang — Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley and Jane Lynch — sang and danced along with a hoard of other TV A-listers that included Tina Fey, Jon Hamm, Joel McHale and Betty White.
When this spot was filmed, “Glee” was still riding high off of the monumental praise it received for its breakout first season. The show garnered 19 Emmy nods that year and won four, including Lynch as Comedy Supporting Actress, Neil Patrick Harris as Comedy Guest Actor and Ryan Murphy (the show’s co-creator) as Comedy Director.
While Monteith never received an Emmy nod for playing Finn Hudson, he was praised three consecutive times by the Teen Choice Awards for this role, finally winning in 2011. He also received a Teen Choice nomination that year as Choice Summer Movie Star for the film “Monte Carlo.”
Just last year, Monteith was nominated at the People’s Choice Awards as Favorite TV Comedy Actor (2012), but lost to Harris for “How I Met Your Mother.”
As part of the enormous “Glee” cast, Monteith shared in the show’s Best Comedy Ensemble prize at the Screen Actors Guild in 2009 for the first season. While the cast was nominated the next three years as well, they never reclaimed their glory in the SAG spotlight.
Monteith passed away July 13 at the age of 31 while staying in a hotel in Vancouver, Canada. As of this writing, there is still no information as to the cause of his death.
