The top-rated laffer won Best Comedy Series, Supporting Actor (Simon Helberg) and Supporting Actress (Kaley Cuoco — she tied with “The Middle” star Eden Sher).
However, Jim Parsons did not repeat as Comedy Actor with that honor going to Louis C.K. (“Louie“) while Bob Newhart lost his guest bid to Patton Oswalt (“Parks and Recreation”). Newhart was feted by the 86 members of the Broadcast Television Journalist Assn. who bestow these awards for his lifetime of achievement.
“Homeland” — which won both the drama series and lead actress (Claire Danes) prizes last year –was shut out.
Also getting a bid boost in her quest for her first Emmy nomination is Drama Supporting Actress champ Monica Potter (“Parenthood“). Michael Cudlitz may have a harder time translating his supporting actor win for the cancelled “Southland” into Emmy recognition.
Despite a leading six bids, “American Horror Story: Asylum” lost Best Movie/Mini to the telefilm “Behind the Candelabra” which also won for star Michael Douglas. While “AHS” leading lady Jessica Lange was bested by Elisabeth Moss (“Top of the Lake“), Sarah Paulson and Zachary Quinto won the newly added supporting races edging out, among others, co-stars Lily Rabe and James Cromwell.
“The Voice” repeated as Best Reality Competition Series while Best Reality Series was shared by “Duck Dynasty” and “Push Girls.”
Perennial Emmy champ “Daily Show with Jon Stewart” won Best Talk Show besting, among others, last year’s winner “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
And “Archer” repeated as Best Animated Series.
