Will Jason Thompson or Doug Davidson win first Daytime Emmy?

Our experts are divided as to who will win Best Actor at the Daytime Emmy awards.

Three of them — Nelson Branco (Soap Opera Uncensored), Jamey Giddens (Daytime Confidential) and Dan Kroll (Soap Central) — back the bid by Jason Thompson (“General Hospital“) who contends in this category for the first time. He was a supporting actor nominee for the past two years for his performance as Dr. Patrick Drake.

Two of them — Roger Newcomb (We Love Soaps) and Gold Derby executive editor Paul Sheehan — expect Doug Davidson to finally prevail after playing Paul Williams on “The Young and the Restless” for 35 years. He contended in this category twice (2003, 2010) and tried his luck in the supporting race in 2011.

And Gold Derby founder Tom O’Neil favors Maurice Benard who has won one (2003) of his seven bids for playing Sonny Corinthos on “General Hospital.”
