Daytime Emmy snubs: Laura Wright, Nancy Lee Grahn, James Reynolds

The Daytime Emmys are always full of surprises, and the nominees for the 40th annual event are no exception. In a twist worthy of a soap opera, there were no snubs at all in the race for Best Drama Series, where all five programs eligible for consideration — “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “Days of Our Lives,” “General Hospital,” “One Life to Live,” and “The Young and the Restless” — made the cut.

But there were plenty of surprises in the other drama races. Three of last year’s acting winners were among the pre-nominees for this year’s event, and while two are back to defend their titles — Best Actress nominee Heather Tom (“B&B”) and Best Younger Actor nominee Chandler Massey (“Days”) — one failed to make the cut: Nancy Lee Grahn (“GH”), who won Supporting Actress last year and has earned eight career nominations.

Best Supporting Actor frontrunner James Reynolds was snubbed for playing Abe Carver on “Days.” He earned one previous nomination for this role in 2004, and earned an earlier Best Actor bid in 1991 for “Generations.”

“GH” had four pre-nominees for Best Actress, including two previous winners (Laura Wright and Finola Hughes) and a previous nominee (Kelly Monaco), but none of them earned a bid in that category this year.

  1. It’s a shame that there were a few really talented people that got left out of the nominations, but I’m still excited to see that The Young and the Restless is getting the recognition it deserves! Heck, that show is still my favorite after all this time. I don’t even know the last time I missed an episode, although I can never seem to make it home from my office at DISH in time to watch. Luckily, I’m still able to start watching the whole thing on the bus ride home with my phone and DISH Anywhere. Since this app links my phone with my home DVR, I can watch all my shows like this no matter where I am.
