Jessica Lange won Movie/Mini Supporting Actress in 2012 for the first season of the horror anthology series “American Horror Story,” and she gets best odds to win the lead race this year as a tormented nun in “American Horror Story: Asylum,” but is she vulnerable?
Indeed, 11 of our 17 Experts favor Lange to win her third career Emmy: Debra Birnbaum (TV Guide Magazine), Mike Cidoni (Associated Press), Lynn Elber (Associated Press), Scott Feinberg (Hollywood Reporter), AJ Hammer (HLN Showbiz Tonight), Daniel Manu (TV Without Pity), Melanie McFarland (IMDb), Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood), Glenn Whipp (LA Times), and Gold Derby’s Tom O’Neil and Paul Sheehan.
But not so fast. Six experts think Lange will be upset by Elisabeth Moss, who has earned five nominations to date for “Mad Men” and now competes in this race as a dogged New Zealand detective in Sundance’s “Top of the Lake.” Betting on her are Robert Bianco (USA Today), Steve Pond (The Wrap), Lynette Rice (Entertainment Weekly), Matt Roush (TV Guide Magazine), Piya Sinha-Rroy (Reuters), and Ken Tucker.
Our Editors are almost evenly split. Three pick Moss: Chris Beachum, Rob Licuria, and Daniel Montgomery. But four believe Lange will win: Marcus Dixon and David Schnelwar, along with O’Neil and Sheehan.
Our Top 24 Users, who scored best last year when predicting Emmys, also favor Lange. 13 are betting on the two-time Oscar-winner, while 10 pick Moss. The rest of our users are also split: 55% favor Lange, while 36% are backing Moss.
