The Emmys usually love to honor actors multiple times, particularly in this race, which Candice Bergen won a record five times for “Murphy Brown” in the late 1980s and 1990s, after which Helen Hunt won four in a row for “Mad About You,” but if Louis-Dreyfus prevails she will be the first woman since Patricia Heaton (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) in 2000 and 2001 to win multiple times for the same role.
But despite the recent trend against repeat winners, Louis-Dreyfus will easily prevail if our racetrack odds are any indication. She has overwhelming support, with 12 out of 13 experts, five out of eight editors, 15 out of our top 24 users, and 62% of all users predicting her to take a second consecutive victory lap.
With the odds so strongly in her favor, can anyone hope to challenge her?
Tina Fey (“30 Rock“) is the closest threat according to our predictors. One editor — Daniel Montgomery — as well as three of our top 24 users and 15% of all users think she’ll win the category for the second time; she previously won in 2008.
