Globes experts: ’12 Years a Slave’ solid frontrunner for Best Drama Picture

Among our dozen Oscarologists who have made predictions for the Golden Globes, 10 of them back the bid by “12 Years a Slave” for Best Drama Picture. That overwhelming support gives the film leading odds of 2 to 3 to take this prize on Jan. 12 at the 71st annual edition of these kudos bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn.

Of the other four nominees, “Gravity” is the only film to land in the top spot on the individual rankings of our Experts — this blockbuster has the support of two of them. That tranlsates into odds of 17 to 10.

Although none of the other three nominees are predicted to win by our Experts, “Captain Phillips” and “Philomena” have slightly better odds of 50 to 1 — versus “Rush” — because they rank higher on on the lists.

Compare these standings to the Oscars where “12 Years a Slave” has a less commanding lead over “Gravity” with odds of 7/2 versus 11/2 to take Best Picture.
