Daytime Emmys Best Actor battle: Jason Thompson vs. Doug Davidson

Two leading men are locked in a fierce struggle to win their first Best Actor award at the Daytime Emmy awards.

Jason Thompson contended in the supporting category for the past two years for for his role as Dr. Patrick Drake on “General Hospital“. This bump up to lead looks like a good move on his part as he is the frontrunner in this race with odds of 4 to 9.

However, daytime vet Doug Davidson could prove to be a spoiler. He has played Paul Williams on “The Young and the Restless” for 35 years, contending in this category twice (2003, 2010) and tried his luck in the supporting race in 2011. This time around he has odds of 4 to 1 to finally win.

Davidson’s co-star Peter Bergman has played Jack Abbot on the CBS sudser since 1979. He has won three of his jaw-dropping 18 bids for Best Actor but is unlikely to win another as he has odds of 20 to 1.

Michael Muhney, who joined “Y&R” in 2009 in the role of Adam Newman, is unlikely to prevail with his first nomination. He has odds of 25 to 1.
