Matthew McConaughey is poised to have a very good 2014. His film “Dallas Buyers Club” opened this weekend and he’s a shoo-in for a Best Actor Oscar nomination according to Gold Derby’s polling of experts, editors and users. He is already in third place behind Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave“) and Robert Redford (“All is Lost“). This would be the first Oscar nomination of his 20-year career.
But that’s not the only good news for McConaughey.
Thanks to “True Detective” — his upcoming eight-episode limited series on HBO which debuts on Jan. 12 — he has a great shot to reap his first Emmy nomination as well. The paycaster has dominated the movie/miniseries races in recent years, so McConaughey and co-star Woody Harrelson are already frontrunners.
If McConaughey earns Oscar and Emmy bids in the same calendar year, he will join an elite group that includes Helen Mirren, Helen Hunt, Jeff Bridges and Forest Whitaker. Scroll down to the photo gallery to see 10 actors and actresses who doubled-up on nominations in the same year.
