‘American Idol’ Top 7 shocker: Dexter Roberts kicked to the curb

The “American Idol” Top 7 results are in, and country crooner Dexter Roberts has now gone the way of Malaya Watson, Majesty Rose and M.K. Nobilette, i.e. kicked to the curb by America’s votes.

While the studio audience and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. seemed shocked by Dexter’s elimination, Gold Derby’s racetrack odds actually predicted that Dexter would be in the bottom two. The only difference: Instead of America’s choice of Jessica Meuse sitting next to Dexter on the losers’ stools, we assumed it would be C.J. Harris.

After Wednesday’s Competitor’s Choice Night, Dexter had the second highest chance of being eliminated according to our predictions, with 5/1 odds to leave.

C.J.’s chances of being eliminated were a bit higher with 2/5 odds, but he lived to sing another day.

‘American Idol’ odds: Winner will be Caleb Johnson, Jena Irene or Alex Preston

Throughout his “Idol” run, Dexter consistently had trouble enunciating his lyrics, so as we noted after the performance show, “It may have been an error in judgment to take on a tongue-twister” song like Luke Bryan‘s “Muckalee Creek Water.”
