At the end of “The Americans” second season on FX, Russian embassy worker Nina Sergeevna was being sent home to go on trial for treason. Will actress Annet Mahendru be returning next year for a third season on the FX drama series? We will ask her about that when she joins us for a live chat this Tuesday, June 10, at 12:30 p.m. PT; 3:30 p.m. ET on Gold Derby’s home page.
In the first season of the program, Mahendru was a recurring cast member but was promoted to the regular cast for this past season airing in the spring. She plays an informant/mole for Noah Emmerich‘s character of FBI agent Stan Beeman and has also been in an illicit affair with him. She has often been seen as a double agent, however, working both sides of the two countries. In the season finale “Echo,” Beeman was going to betray the United States but relented in the end, saying he was sorry to Nina in a letter.
Mahendru is nominated at the Critics Choice TV Awards this month as Best Drama Supporting Actress. The show also received nods for Best Drama Series, plus Keri Russell as Best Drama Actress and Matthew Rhys as Best Drama Actor
Mahendru was born in Afghanistan and moved to New York at age 13. This current role on “The Americans” is her best known, following guest shots on “Entourage,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Mike and Molly,” “White Collar,” and “The Blacklist.”
