“I predict ‘Modern Family and ‘House of Cards‘ to win. But mark my words, SAG voters still can give a farewell kiss to ‘Boardwalk Empire,'” warns Gold Derby’s contest champ Umur Cagin Tas. This user beat all others while predicting the SAG TV nominations, earning the #1 position on our leaderboard thanks to his 76% accuracy and 24,292 point score. See all of Tas’ predictions here.
Also in our chat, this 24-year-old student from Istanbul, Turkey talks about his favorite ensembles of the year and the biggest SAG shocks and snubs. Below, read the entire Q&A with our SAG TV nominations contest champ.
When predicting the nominees, do you usually go with the flow or go your own way?
I predict the nominees my own way I think. And of course the history of the awards I’m predicting is very important to me. For example, SAG is full of lazy people when it comes to choosing the nominees for TV categories. They don’t care what’s popular or not.
What was the biggest surprise SAG TV nomination?
Biggest surprise to me was Eric Stonestreet. I knew SAG will still go after “Modern Family” and put another statuette to their shelf. But after two consecutive snubs from Emmy, I thought Stonestreet’s chances were dead.
What about snubs? Were you in shock over a particular actor/actress/ensemble that didn’t make the cut with SAG?
Biggest snub? Jessica Lange! I’m not a fan of her, but critics and industry would kill just to nominate Lange. But she was out. So, bye-bye “American Horror Story” fandom.
My personal favorite TV drama ensemble was “The Leftovers.” I still can’t understand why people hate that show so much. It was spectacular at every level of filmmaking and those performances were beyond words.
