While our Users are overwhemingly predicting that “Modern Family” will win a record-tying fifth consecutive Comedy Series award at the upcoming Emmys, they are backing “Veep” when it comes to filling in their dream ballots.
However, over on the drama side of the ledger, their own preferences line up with what they expect TV academy voters to go for — reigning champ “Breaking Bad” has a large lead in both races.
The disconnect between what our Users predict will win Best Comedy Series and what they think should win is startling. “Modern Family” has four times as much support as “Veep” as the predicted winner but ranks only fourth among those laffers that our Users like the most. The new laffers “Orange is the New Black” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” both attracted more of your dream first-place votes than “Modern Family.” (The dream vote tallies above only include your first-place votes but the rankings take into account your placement of all six picks per category.)
Compare that to the support for “Breaking Bad,” which is breathtaking. Eight times as many Users are predicting it to repeat at the Emmys as those that expect the freshman series “True Detective” to prevail. But that HBO anthology series ranks only fifth on your dream ballots, with the paycaster’s popular “Game of Thrones” coming in second there, with about one-third the support of “Breaking Bad.”
Among the other curious contrasts:
BEST COMEDY ACTRESS
Users’ Prediction: Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”)
Dream Ballot: Amy Poehler (“Parks and Recreation”)
BEST COMEDY ACTOR
Users’ Prediction: Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”)
Dream Ballot: Andy Samberg (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”)
BEST MOVIE/MINI ACTRESS
Users’ Prediction: Minnie Driver (“Return to Zero”)
Dream Ballot: Jessica Lange (“AHS: Coven”)
BEST MOVIE/MINI ACTOR
Users’ Prediction: Mark Ruffalo (“The Normal Heart”)
Dream Ballot: Billy Bob Thornton (“Fargo”)
And while you both want and expect Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”) and Robin Wright (“House of Cards“) to take the top acting awards for drama series, “Orphan Black” leading lady Tatiana Maslany is thisclose to overtaking Wright on your dream ballots.
