The Broadcast Film Critics Assn. will announce their 2014 nominations on Monday, December 15. Our predictions center is now open and ready for you to make your picks in 17 Critics’ Choice Award categories.
The Critics’ Choice Awards have proven to be the most accurate precursor to the Oscars. The 250 members of the BFCA have predicted 13 of the past 18 Best Picture Oscar winners as well as 13 Best Actor, 10 Best Actress, 10 Best Supporting Actor and 12 Supporting Actress Academy Awards champs.
Last year, they previewed all of those categories: “12 Years a Slave” as Best Picture and the four acting winners of Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine”), and Lupita Nyong’o (“12 Years a Slave”).
As for Oscar nominations, the BFCA foresaw eight out of the nine Best Picture candidates in 2013 (only missing on “Philomena” and 16 of the 20 acting nominees. The four they failed to foresee: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill (“The Wolf of Wall Street”), Amy Adams (“American Hustle”), and Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”).
