Shocking Critics’ Choice Awards snubs: Steve Carell, Amy Adams, Timothy Spall, …

Handed out by the almost 300 members of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards offer one of the strongest previews among the precursor prizes of the Oscars. In its 19-year history, these kudos have predicted 12 Best Picture Oscar winners, 15 Best Directors, 13 Best Actors and 10 Best Actresses.

Last year, eight of the nine Oscar contenders for Best Picture contended here first. And the BFCA  foresaw all but four of last year’s acting nominees at the Oscars, missing only one per category.

The choices of these critics give us an excellent idea of which way the motion picture academy is leaning. And while that’s good news for the Critics’ Choice nominees, it is bad news for those who were unexpectedly snubbed.
