‘Dancing with the Stars’ says goodbye to its first contestant in season 19

Last night’s “Dancing With the Stars” season premiere featured standout performances by several contestants, especially actor Alfonso Ribeiro, who impressed the judges so much they invited him and partner Witney Carson to perform an encore of their top-scoring jive during Tuesday night’s results show. But a few contestants couldn’t overcome their first-week jitters, and one team won’t get a chance to redeem themselves.

Dancing with the Stars’ season 19 premiere: A wardrobe malfunction & an early frontrunner?

Olympic athlete Lolo Jones finished near the bottom of the leaderboard after she lost track of the choreography during her cha cha with first-time “DWTS” pro partner Keo Motsepe, but even though she finished with a higher judges’ score than fashion designer Betsey Johnson, who stumbled over clothes after a prop malfunction, it was Lolo who was sent home after the scores were combined with viewers’ votes.

It probably didn’t help that Lolo was paired with one of the season’s three new pros, who hasn’t had a chance to develop a fanbase, while Johnson is partnered with longtime “DWTS” favorite Tony Dovolani, who probably delivered some votes of his own.

That means poor Keo won’t get a chance to win himself any new fans – not this season at least. But the other two newcomers – Emmy-nominated “So You Think You Can Dance” alum Allison Holker and past winner of the UK’s “Strictly Come Dancing” Artem Chigvintsev – are still in the competition. The results show, which formally introduced the trio to the world with a sexy dance routine, might help popularize them to viewers going into week-two of the competition.
