Alfonso Ribeiro danced a flamenco with Cheryl Burke instead of his usual pro partner Witney Carson, and for judge Julianne Hough, they were the first team of the night that had believable chemistry. Bruno Tonioli agreed that their chemistry was “scorching.”

Speaking of scorching, Janel Parrish was criticized for her burlesque routine with Artem Chigvintsev; the judges thought there was too much sex, not enough burlesque. Nevertheless, their partnership was enough to incite the jealousy of their usual partners Lea Thompson and Val Chmerkovskiy, who threw in a kiss for their playful Broadway-inspired number.

Bruno thought Bethany Mota was reminiscent of a young Madonna when she delivered her hip-hop dance with Mark Ballas, the best friend of her regular partner, Derek Hough. The style was a change of pace for Mota, but Carrie Ann Inaba told her she had serious “swag.”
