Daytime Emmy reels: Linsey Godfrey (‘B&B’) hopes comedy will win her Younger Actress

Just like last year, the 2014 Daytime Emmy acting reels are being made available for public viewing online. The roundup of episode submissions continues with Best Younger Actress. I’ve watched all five; will “Bold and the Beautiful” star Linsey Godfrey‘s comic reel stand out in a category full of tears?

Watch her rivals’ reels:
Kristen Alderson, Hunter King, Kim Matula, and Kelley Missal

Length of Reel: 9:16

Synopsis: Caroline Spencer (Godfrey) watches an episode of her friend Rafael’s (Andy Zuno) web series “Room 8” and gives him suggestions for how to make it more sexually provocative. But she has an ulterior motive: she’s trying to make her ex-boyfriend Rick jealous.

Analysis: There are no tears of anguish in Godfrey’s submission. The actress is trying a different strategy, submitting a mostly comic episode in a field full of high drama. She’s front and center for nearly the entire reel, acting out a sexy flirtation between the “Room 8” characters as she rewrites a script with Rafael. This playful turn allows her to act out exaggerated versions of the “Room 8” roles, while maintaining an edge of deviousness.

Emmy voters are typically inundated with emotionally dramatic submissions, and indeed Godfrey’s four Younger Actress rivals all submitted tearful episodes. That could help her stand out from the pack if voters want a change of pace. But there is also the risk that voters might not find the lighthearted performance impactful enough to win.

Will she surprise voters with humor? Watch her submitted scenes below, then predict Best Younger Actress and discuss the episodes in our forums:
