Length of Reel: 7:58
Synopsis: Michael Baldwin (LeBlanc) confronts his wife Lauren (Emmy-winner Tracey E. Bregman) with evidence that she is having an affair. She deflects the question and takes him to task for not supporting their son when he needed them. When Michael leaves to drown his sorrows at a bar, he becomes suspicious that the bartender is his wife’s lover.
Analysis: LeBlanc is a nine-time nominee and a three-time winner; all his wins have been in the lead category, and all have come in the last 10 years, so he can never be ruled out of an Emmy contest. His scenes are certainly impactful enough to win; he becomes so furious at his wife that he flips a table. But much of the dialogue is a back-and-forth of insinuations and denials, and it never reaches the catharsis of a confession.
He’s evenly matched by his scene partner, Bregman, which means half the focus of the reel is on her. Will that take away from his performance in the eyes of voters, or will they be wowed by the duel?
