Daytime Emmy reels: Hell hath no fury like Best Actress nominee Heather Tom (‘B&B’)

The Daytime Emmy reels for Best Actress are available for viewing online. I’ve watched all four. Can anyone stop defending champ Heather Tom (“The Bold and the Beautiful“) from tying Erika Slezak‘s Emmy record for most wins by an actress?

Watch her rivals’ reels:
Eileen Davidson, Katherine Kelly Lang, and Arianne Zucker

Length of Reel: 11:00

Synopsis: Katie (Tom) confronts her husband, Bill (Don Diamont), and her sister Brooke (fellow Best Actress nominee Katherine Kelly Lang) about sleeping together while she was suffering from postpartum depression. She throws both of them out of her house.

Analysis: Hell hath no fury like Heather Tom. Her most powerful material is near the beginning of the reel, when she vows not to be a doormat and not to forgive so easily anymore. Brad attempts to place part of the blame on Katie — she pushed Bill and Brooke together during her depression (Tom won this category last year for an episode from that storyline) — but that only makes her righteous indignation more satisfying: “Tell me one more time about these magical, mystical words that only I can say that forced you, against your will, to ruin my life,” she says. “Tell me the story again, if you dare.”

The second half of the reel may give a boost to her Emmy rival Lang, who has strong moments in which she defends her actions and accuses Katie of looking down on her for years. But even then Tom has an opportunity to shine, admitting that part of her still wants to forgive Brooke before finally kicking her to the curb.
