Our forum posters are debating two very different episode submissions for Best Supporting Actress at the Daytime Emmys to determine who really is out front: Jane Elliot (“General Hospital“), for a scene in which she demands more from her husband (seven-time Emmy winner Anthony Geary), or Elizabeth Hendrickson (“The Young and the Restless“), who is heartbroken over the death of her young daughter in a hit-and-run accident. The nominees are as follows (click each actor’s name to watch their reels):
Melissa Claire Egan, “The Young and the Restless”
Jane Elliot, “General Hospital”
Amelia Heinle, “The Young and the Restless”
Elizabeth Hendrickson, “The Young and the Restless”
Kelly Sullivan, “General Hospital”
At the very least, most forum posters seem to agree it’s a two-way race between Elliot and Hendrickson, though some argue that we’re underestimating first-time nominees Kelly Sullivan (“GH”) and Amelia Heinle (“Y&R”), as well as perennial contender Melissa Claire Egan (“Y&R”), who is nominated for the fifth time in six years.
Our combined predictions favor Elliot, who gets 4/7 odds, but Hendrickson is close behind with 13/5 odds. Do you agree, or are we foolishly underestimating the rest of the field? OLTLfan: “Elliot’s fantastic and truly in a league of her own but Hendrickson’s got one hell of a baity reel and delivers a great performance. It’s really too close to call. I could easily see this going either way.”
FreemanGriffin: “[Elliot] submitted what I regarded as the best acting performance by an actress in 2013 daytime … What I love so much about this actress is how she is always great REGARDLESS of whether the writing is there or not. I need for Jane Elliot to win! If she wins, I will be ecstatic!”
JONNYSBRO: “[Elliot’s submission is] real hardcore acting and I was riveted by her and Geary. Just excellent stuff, this woman is a phenom actress.”
GHFan: “For me, it comes down to Elliot and Hendrickson, who I just couldn’t decide between. This is one category where I wouldn’t mind a tie.”
Pujolsfan: “After seeing those scenes with Hendrickson in the hospital after the death of her daughter, I doubt voters will be able to ignore that.”
Allan: “Would love for Elliot to be the winner, but after watching all of the reels, Hendrickson’s had the most impact to me and I’m going for her to edge out Jane for the win.”
