The Creative Arts Emmys take place this Saturday (Aug. 16), giving you precious little time to make or change your predictions in the race for Best Comedy Guest Actor. According to the 13 Emmy Experts polled by Gold Derby, this is one of the toughest races to predict this year, as no less than four nominees receive first place votes to win.
Jimmy Fallon (“Saturday Night Live“) and Bob Newhart (“The Big Bang Theory“) are the odds-on favorites in this race, but scroll down to see which two Experts are going out on limbs by instead predicting Nathan Lane (“Modern Family“) and Steve Buscemi (“Portlandia“).
Seven out of the 13 Experts are predicting Fallon, giving him a solid majority. They are: Mike Cidoni (Associated Press), Joyce Eng (TV Guide), Scott Feinberg (Hollywood Reporter), Matt Roush (TV Guide), Paul Sheehan (Gold Derby), Anne Thompson (Thompson on Hollywood) and Ken Tucker (freelance).
Louis C.K. (“Saturday Night Live“) and Gary Cole (“Veep“) receive no first place votes from our baker’s dozen Emmyologists, although C.K. does come in second place on Feinberg’s list. Presumably, these two funny men are out of contention, making this a four-person race between Fallon, Newhart, Lane and Buscemi.
According to Gold Derby’s official racetrack odds that combine the predictions of our Experts, Editors and Users, Fallon is currently in first place to win with 1/1 odds, Newhart is in second place with 14/5 odds, Buscemi is in third place with 15/2 odds, Lane is in fourth place with 12/1 odds, and C.K. and Cole are tied for last place with 50/1 odds.
